New Money, Old Money, And Everyone Else

New Money, Old Money, and Everyone Else. These are the economic statuses of the characters in the great Gatsby.
The people who are referred to as "new money" live in West Egg. West Egg is home to newly made millionaires. Among these millionaires are Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby. The people who abide in West Egg are a little less extravagant than those who abide in East Egg (they are still quite extravagant.)  They are also more amicable than the people who live in East Egg. Jay Gatsby is quite amicable. He bought a stranger a $200 dollar dress after she ruined the one she was wearing at one of his parties. Compare this to Tom Buchanan's belief in white power. Yeah, Jay Gatsby is more amicable.
Examples of "new money" nowadays are Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg. They were not born wealthy. They earned their money. An example of old money is Prince William. He was born into a wealthy, royal family. To end this post, let's talk about everyone else. Everyone else is like the screws in the frame of a building. They pale in comparison to the beams and the overall structure. The screws are everyone else and the beams and overall structure are the wealthy people. The screws are still very important, but the beams and structure are far more important. Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, Tom Buchanan, and all the other wealthy people are beams, the others are the screws. Old money, new money, and everyone else; 3 ways to identify people in The Great Gatsby.
